Tragedy and comedy are two sides of the same coin. So take every opportunity that presents itself to smile, grin, or laugh. If you notice anything that amuses you, grab it with both cheeks, both lips, all your teeth, and the wrinkles around your eyes.
If it’s funny enough – in your perspective! – a strong, hearty belly-laugh is great medicine.
Actively looking for such opportunities – seeking and noticing novelty – IS mindfulness.
Don’t be dismayed if your tears of laughter turn into tears of sadness or grief (for yourself or for someone else or for a situation). Just let them flow. And vice versa – it’s perfectly natural and okay for tears of sadness to transform into tears of laughter if some thought, sight or sound strikes you as comic.
Comedy will actually help you to process tragedy – even the tragedies of loss and depression.
